SAVE MONEY ON COFFEE???

We are avid coffee drinkers. Any one of our friends or family members can confirm this. It is never too hot, too early or too late to drink coffee in the Gatto household. We used to purchase Starbuck’s Organic Blend at about $8 a pop. We have one of those European coffee pots that percolates on the stove. I would put in three spoons per pot (it’s a 6-cup pot). We went through 3 bags of this coffee a month. That is an insane amount of money we thought, but the idea of cutting back on coffee to us was … well … insane, so we came up with a better idea. 

We found one of those coffee bean grinders at a garage sale for $2. We took the already ground coffee, put it in the grinder and made the grounds as fine as espresso grounds. Not only does this open up the flavor of the grounds, but it extends our coffee because I only need a scoop and a half – half of what I used before – to get the same strong flavor. We have since changed brands of coffee. We purchase Café Bustelo for around $4 for a 10 ounce can. This can lasts us a MONTH!! Try it and see how long your coffee lasts!

…and one more sweet note:  If you want to add a little flavor to your coffee without paying extra for fancy “flavored coffee,” try sprinkling a little cinnamon in with the grounds - our personal favorite.  If cinnamon isn’t your thing try cocoa.  You can also add a little pure vanilla extract (or any other extract of your choice) to the water.  Voila!  You now have flavored coffee.  Hmm-mmm good!
