HOME REMEDY SERIES - Miracles in your cupboard exposed!
We will be writing a series of articles on products you probably have in your home right now that are just waiting to heal you and save you money! These are things WE ACTUALLY USE or HAVE USED to treat various ailments in a non-toxic and chemical-free way and have saved us a tremendous amount of money in the long run.
Miracle # 1 – Baking Soda
Other than being an ingredient in almost every dessert recipe for its leavening ability what else can you possibly use Baking Soda for? Let me count three ways we use it in our home:
EXFOLIANT – Baking Soda is an awesome way to exfoliate your skin and remove blackheads. Make a paste out of Baking Soda and water and gently massage on your face and neck. Rinse. Follow with a light moisturizer. You won’t even believe how soft your skin will feel …. just like a baby’s bum. For more severe blemishes, make a slightly thicker paste and apply to your face. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse. Follow with a light moisturizer. The Baking Soda helps dry up the excess oil in your skin helping your blemishes to heal much more quickly.
SCALP CLEANSER – Okay, I know. That sounds gross, but follow me on this for a sec. I’m not a real shampoo advocate, however, your scalp is skin, and just like the skin on your face it needs to be cleansed gently. It also needs to be exfoliated occasionally. So here’s how I do it: make a paste of Baking Soda and water and gently massage on your scalp, starting at the crown of your head to the nape of your neck, then the sides. Rinse. Apply conditioner as usual. Rinse your hair as the last step before you get out of the shower so that your hair and scalp soak up the moisture from the conditioner. I do this once a week. I leave a little box of Baking Soda in the bathroom so that I have it readily available.
HAIR PRODUCT BUILDUP REMOVER – If you use products that contain Silicone, or any product that ends in ‘–cone’ your hair will accumulate buildup. The Baking Soda will remove this buildup in a non-toxic way. Add 1 tbsp of Baking Soda to 8 oz of water and put it in a spray bottle. When you step in the shower thoroughly rinse your hair (skip the shampoo this time), then spritz your entire head of hair with this mixture. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and rinse. After you rinse you will notice that as you run your fingers over your hair it “squeaks.” This is the sign that your hair is “squeaky clean!” Always remember to follow with conditioner so that you keep your hair moisturized.
There are so many more ways to use Baking Soda! You can use it as a cleaning agent for your house or your laundry, deoderize your refrigerator, etc. And it’s so cheap! If you incorporated the above three uses for Baking Soda you would cut about $20+ from your budget thus saving you money AND at the same time help reduce the amount of chemicals you put on your body, which is always a plus! Just give it a try!
Stay tuned for Miracle # 2 ……..
